1. What was your first brew?
The first beer I brewed at Temple was the Bicycle beer, my first Temple recipe was the Rye Hard IPA.
2. How did you get this job?
I was approached as to whether I would be interested in taking over the reigns as Head Brewer after a change of ownership.
3. What’s your favourite beer that you have brewed?
My favourite beer that I have brewed at Temple is either the New World Order American Stout as it is just a beer that gives so much flavour through every mouth full, but I am equally proud of the Power Stance Pilsner as it is such a clean crisp Pilsner in the traditional style.
4. What’s your favourite beer brewed by others?
Australian, you have to admire Feral Hop Hog for consistency and I have always enjoyed Red Hill Scotch Ale, Hargreaves Hill Phoenix, Bridge Road Saison. Internationally I like Trois Monts, Weihenstephaner Hefe and Rogue Chocolate Stout.
5. Which beer would you like to brew?
I would love to be recognised for making a brilliant traditional Pilsner but more importantly I just want to brew beers that people like drinking.
6. What name would you really like to give to a beer, and what type of beer would it be?
I have some names I would like to give beers but it will have to wait until I brew those beers before I give away my names. I like referencing things that I enjoy, either naming beers after movies, bands, songs, favourite sporting teams etc.
7. What’s your favourite beer style?
I am a massive stout fan. It is the one style I would drink if I was limited to just one style
8. What’s your favourite hop variety?
I think like most brewers the aromatic American hops such as Amarillo really stand out, although I do enjoy a lot of traditional Noble style hops as well.
9. What’s your favourite malt variety?
As a base malt, Golden Promise, but I think to sit and chew on probably a nice Australian or NZ Crystal Malt
10. Which do you prefer – draught, bottle or cans?
I think if I had to choose one then it is draught. But they all have their benefits depending on the style or my location.
